Café Ubé Vietnamese Pho

Thousands of islanders who enjoy eating healthy, high quality food made in Jersey, will notice that from today, our Cafés have a new name – Café Ubé.

Our sister company opened it’s first café in the 1960s in Gorey and has been serving healthy food and drinks to islanders since then. The cafés form part of the family-owned and newly renamed group,  JPRestaurants which has been in the same ownership since 1954. The group also includes Banjo, Oyster Box and the Jersey Crab Shack restaurants in St. Helier, St. Brelade and Gorey.

Café Ubé (pronounced “ooh-bay”) will continue to offer its tasty fresh food, prepared in Jersey, from its three outlets in King Street, Colomberie and at Liberation Station and for delivery to St. Helier town addresses. Opening and closing times will remain the same, as will the selection of healthy soups, salads, sandwiches and other light meals that has become a firm island favourite.

Whilst the name of our cafés is changing, you can rest assured that you will still experience the same exceptional standard of service and nutritious menu choices that we know is so important to you when choosing something to eat during the working day or having a delivery to your office for a working lunch.

What has changed, however, is the website which is now cafeube.com and our Facebook page. Don’t forget to visit our website to see our menu, daily soups and hot food or to place your delivery orders online and read our latest news.

If you hold a loyalty card, you’ll be pleased to know that it will continue to work at Café Ubé in exactly the same way as before, offering you points equivalent to 10% off hot drinks and 5% off other items, as well as 10% off purchases in our sister company’s Halkett Place ceramic shop. If you aren’t a loyalty scheme member but would like to join and enjoy these discounts, please visit our website cafeube.com.

The name change was driven by changes in the way we do business in this digital age. We found customers around the world looking to buy ceramics from our sister company used Google to search for purchases but ended up with a page full of results including what soup we had on offer in Jersey at our cafés. Conversely our local customers looking to search for our menu or online delivery found references to ceramics, resulting from its increased digital footprint clogging up their search results. So we thought the easiest solution was to drop the reference in our name!

The new name Café Ubé, is taken from part of our local heritage – Mont Ubé dolmen in St Clement. We think it has a nice ring to it and works well so we don’t have to completely change our look and feel. Hopefully you will still feel a sense of familiarity when visiting your favourite stop for breakfast, lunch or a mid-morning coffee.

We look forward to serving you again soon in a Café Ubé near you!
